GATE Energy provides predictable project delivery services to the energy sector. They design, build, commission, and start energy facilities and assets without cost and schedule blowouts by using parametric prediction models, providing tight project controls and by actively eliminating operation problems during the project’s design phase. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, GATE Energy has built a global presence with offices in Singapore and South Korea, serving both offshore and onshore markets in the United States.

Overview of the project

GATE Energy transitioned its Completion Management processes from paper-based methods to a digital system using Omega 365’s software to improve efficiency and streamline workflows.

Previously, Completion Management involved physical folders, printed drawings, and manual documentation. Seeking a more efficient approach, the company aimed to eliminate paper-based workflows, enhance data accuracy, and save time in project execution. They initially developed an in-house system, and in 2019 transitioned to Omega 365’s software solutions, enabling a full transition to digital operations by October 2019.

Navigating the challenges

Cultural shift to digital Workflows

Transitioning staff from a familiar, paper-based system to an entirely digital workflow required a cultural shift within the organization. Employees had to adapt to new tools and processes, making comprehensive training and ongoing support essential to success. Change Management played a significant role in ensuring smooth adoption across all levels of the company, including in connection with migration of data.

Training and adoption

Providing adequate training was key to ensuring that all personnel could effectively use the new system. Omega 365’s implementation team worked closely with GATE Energy to tailor training sessions to different user groups, from field technicians to project managers. This ensured that employees could navigate the system efficiently and take full advantage of its capabilities.

Omega 365’s role in the project

Omega 365 was selected for its digital solution for Completion Management. Omega 365 provided a dedicated team to oversee implementation, ensuring a smooth transition.

“When I first started in the business, completion management was an all-paper process—physical folders, printed drawings, stacks of A & B sheets, and the never-ending cycle of printing, scanning, and filing. Fast forward to today, working with Omega 365’s software, we’ve gone fully digital, unlocking a whole new level of efficiency,” says Grant Gibson, GATE Commissioning Manager.

“We no longer have to manually build folders or wait for updated drawings to be printed. All relevant documents—drawings, vendor files, loop diagrams—are directly linked to specific tags,” Gibson explains.

In addition to efficiency gains, the digital transition streamlined operations by reducing the need for a separate completions department focused on paperwork.

“No more scanning completed sheets or manually updating folders when engineering releases a new revision,” Gibson notes. “Project controls staffing has also been optimized thanks to automation, allowing the team to focus on execution rather than admin work.”

Throughout the project, Omega 365 adapted its approach to align with GATE Energy’s evolving needs, ensuring that the digital system provided real-time access to updated documents and minimized operational disruptions. The shift to automation allowed for significant efficiency gains, freeing up personnel to focus on execution rather than administrative work.

The digital transformation of Completion Management at GATE Energy directly supported sustainability goals by significantly reducing paper consumption and eliminating the need for physical storage. The transition also decreased reliance on printers and scanners, reducing energy usage and waste. By moving to a fully digital platform, GATE Energy contributed to a more sustainable operational model while improving workflow efficiency.
