Omega 365 Lithuania celebrates 20 years

When group CEO Petter Aalvik travelled to the Lithuanian port city of Klaipėda in 2005, the mission was simple: to recruit a small team that could support Omega’s growing technology activities. Two decades later, the initiative has developed into one of the most important technology environments within the Omega 365 group.

Petter Aalvik was joined on the trip by the then Tech Ops Manager Eiolf Berge, a trip that laid the foundation for an exciting technology journey. This March, Omega 365 Lithuania marks its 20th anniversary. The company has grown into a key hub for software development, cloud technology, and support for deliveries across the globe.

A small beginning

The company was established in 2006 under the name UAB Omega Technology. “UAB” is a Lithuanian legal company structure, similar to “AS” in Norway, but within Omega the abbreviation quickly became the everyday nickname used for the company in Klaipeda.

“From the very beginning, the team in Klaipėda worked closely with the headquarters in Ølensvåg. Much of the work was connected to internal systems such as Appframe, Pims, and Market Maker, platforms that later evolved into solutions like Connect Omega, Collaborate Omega, and eventually, the Omega 365 platform as we know it today,” says Vadim Narožnij, General Manager of Omega 365 Lithuania.

He explains that what started as a technological support function gradually evolved into an important part of the group’s software ecosystem.

From prototypes to robust products

Over the years, the Klaipėda environment has played an important role in strengthening Omega 365’s technology foundation. While much of the pioneering work and many new ideas often originated in Norway, the team in Lithuania has contributed with structure, processes and quality assurance that make it possible to transform prototypes into stable and scalable products.

The expertise spans the entire software development lifecycle, from testing and training to cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity. This work has also been important in achieving international ISO certifications, which in turn has made it possible to win new contracts in markets around the world.

“As the company has grown, the range of services has expanded as well. Today, Omega 365 Lithuania delivers expertise in cloud infrastructure, automated testing, cybersecurity, product management, implementation, and technology operations,” Vadim explains.

Supporting global deliveries

Today, the Klaipėda office plays a central role in supporting delivery organizations across the Omega 365 network. The team contributes to operations of Pims, migrations to Omega 365, and the technical execution of implementation projects.

Developers from Lithuania work closely with colleagues and customers worldwide, often through remote collaboration, but also through on-site assignments when larger projects require it.

One of the newest additions to the organization is the Operations Center in Klaipėda. The center operates around the clock, providing second-line support, handling solution rollouts, and contributing to rapid troubleshooting when technical issues arise.

Taking on greater responsibility

Changes in the organization of software activities within Omega 365 have also influenced the role of Omega 365 Lithuania. Today, the work is divided between operational tasks and professional services delivered to the global organization.

“This includes migrations, integrations, upgrades, implementations, and customer support, services that are becoming increasingly important as the Omega 365 platform expands internationally,” says Vadim.

At the same time, the Klaipėda team is gradually taking on greater responsibility for product management. Some areas, including Document Management and the live modules, are already maintained from Lithuania, with development carried out in close collaboration with Omega 365 Core, and additional module areas will follow over time.

In the longer term, the plan is that Omega 365 Software in Norway will focus more on market activities in Norway, while development, operations and maintenance of the platform will take place through close collaboration between the technology environments across the group.

Looking ahead

In the years leading up to 2030, Omega 365 Lithuania is expected to play an even more important role in the development of Omega 365.

One of the key priorities will be supporting the migration of existing clients from Pims to the Omega 365 platform, while further strengthening responsibility for stable operations and system maintenance.

“With strong routines for quality assurance, automated testing, and knowledge sharing, the goal is to ensure that Omega 365 continues to develop as a robust and integrated system for customers around the world,” Vadim concludes.

With 20 years of innovation in Lithuania, the team has become an important part of delivering scalable solutions worldwide.
